Robotic surgery is the latest trend in medicine and most universities include it in their programs. But there is a long way that a surgeon needs to go down before they get to the robotic surgery, and one of the steps is a laparoscopic surgical method. Once a surgeon is comfortable with the laparoscopic approach, they take a step further and start practicing robotic surgery.

Now in this day and age, I’m a little bit older than the younger surgeons that are coming out. Robotic surgery is more accessible than it was when I was going through surgical residency. I had to train myself, post-training, but robotic surgery is accessible to all new residents who are coming out of training at this point.
